The Mourne Mountains, N.I.

£65.00

An original painting from the hike up harp hill collection.

The Mourne Mountains are an iconic part of the landscape in NI. They are filled with wild heather, boglands and have a beautifully crafted old stone wall that snakes through the mountains. Think quintessentially Irish, they overlook small cottages, fields of wild sheep that graze on the hillside and the view takes in the vast majority of Northern Ireland. When I think of colours, I think of browns, greys, lilacs, deep greens, ochre yellows, the blues of the sea that you can spot from the top of Slieve Donard – weather wise, we are often rainy and gloomy but if you are lucky, then you can be met with a beautiful clear sunrise or a warm, golden sunset which lights the mountains and valleys in an orange glow. As you walk through them, there is a stillness and a quiet that seems to be deafening. Often you come across other climbers, dog walkers, runners. In typical NI fashion, there is always a friendly hello. And then when you are finished  your walk, wether you set up camp and huddle around a fire, or you track your way back down through the forest, you grab something warm to eat. Usually fish and chips on Murlough Bay or a warm cup of tea to start the long, sleepy journey home.
