“I paused but a second, listening to the thunder roll through the wrinkles of the hills as the cotton clouds grew into mountains whose peaks slipped beyond sight. The leaves curled over, and the wind danced through the grooves of the branches, kissing the veins of the leaves. And then it is still. The earth is encompassed in a quiet that only exists before a downpour.”
“Lost, maybe just disappointed. I was hopeful about a prospect but now it doesn’t seem to be happening – but part of me maybe doesn’t want it to happen. So just stuck in a limbo of feelings today, unsure of what the next step is.”
“Perfectly peaceful. Surrounded by a hazy indigo as the late afternoon storm fades and twilight begins to grey the details of the horizon. Swaddled in my favorite sunny yellow sweatshirt, and bare feet, cold now, resting on the porch banister. The laminated cover of the library book crinkles as I turn another page, the sounds of water swishing and lapping gently against the shoreline washing over my ears.”
